Prince Harry reached out to organise this week's secret meeting with the Queen and Prince Charles, it is claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met Her Majesty and the heir to the throne during their stopover in Britain yesterday.
The pair then travelled on to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, where they met competitors and adoring fans.
The couple's trip to the UK was the first time they had returned to Britain since starting a new life in America in March 2020.
Prince Harry reportedly offered an 'olive branch' to his dad for talks before he arrived in the UK yesterday.
Sources also told The Sun that the couple met Camilla on their trip to the UK.
Harry and Meghan met Prince Charles and Camilla at 10am on Thursday, The Sun reports.
The pair saw the Queen after their successful meeting with Charles and Camilla.
The monarch reportedly only agreed to meet the pair after they saw Charles.
Senior royal sources have described the meetings as “incredibly warm and good natured” and “very cordial”.
An insider told The Sun: "Harry contacted his father and said he was coming over with Meghan and he wanted to meet.
“Harry instigated it all. It was an olive branch from Harry and made in an effort to clear the air.
“He made the approach to Charles who was obviously very happy, and accepted."
The insider said Charles is keen to heal the bond between him, Harry and Meghan.
He also wants to meet his grandchildren, it is claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stayed the night at Frogmore Cottage after flying into Windsor on Wednesday.
Prince Harry and Meghan told the Queen she will get to see her great-grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, “in the near future”.
The Queen has suffered a catalogue of health issues in recent months.
As well as an overnight hospital stay for an unexplained condition, she suffered from Covid in February and has had worsening mobility issues.
A source close to the Sussexes said: “Both the Duke and Duchess are very mindful the Queen is getting older and has had health issues associated with her great age.

“They have made it clear they are certainly planning to return to see the Queen with their family in the near future.”
The Queen’s record-breaking 70 years on the throne will be celebrated across Britain during a special bank holiday weekend from June 2 to 5.
The royals will unite for the annual Trooping the Colour as well as a special gathering at St Paul’s cathedral.
The Queen also hopes to attend the Epsom Derby and the royals will also be at a special music concert outside Buckingham Palace for 10,000 lucky ticket-holders.
