Prince Harry has insisted he is “enjoying” living in the US too much to ever return to the UK full-time.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, and his 43-year-old wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have been at the centre of rumours they have been living separate lives as they are pursuing different projects and Harry has made a series of trips alone back to Britain, but he has now declared there is a key reason he does not want to return to Britain.
Harry said at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit: “I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here.”
The father-of-two – who has children Archie, five, and three-year-old daughter Lilibet with Meghan – added there are activities he “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK” with his children – citing concerns about his security after his royal protection was scaled back following his US move, which led him to fight for it to be restored in a series of court hearings this year.
He added his focus now is on “being the best husband and the best dad that I can be”.
Harry and Meghan relocated to Montecito, California, in the summer of 2020 months after quitting duties as working senior royals.
The duke has been on a string of solo trips back to the UK this year alone.
His remarks come amid reports he faces the “strong possibility” his immigration documents may be made public in the wake of Donald Trump’s US election victory.
Harry has been at the centre of demands for months by the Heritage Foundation think tank to have his visa application records revealed after he admitted in his 2023 memoir ‘Spare’ to recreational drugs use – something he would have been required to disclose in his immigration documents.
Director of The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom Nile Gardiner recently told DailyMail.com: “I do think there’s a strong possibility that (his papers could be made public.)
“It’s the president’s prerogative. Also the new Homeland Security Secretary could order a review of Harry’s immigration application.
“There are multiple things that could happen but it would be in the best interests of the American people if the Trump administration releases Prince Harry’s records for public scrutiny and Harry should be held to account.”
Mr Gardiner added he thinks Harry’s files will be made public in the next year.
The Heritage Foundation says Harry’s admissions about drugs could have made him ineligible for entry to the US.
