Prince Harry hails 'power of therapy' during surprise appearance at mental health summit

Prince Harry has made a surprise appearance at a mental health summit where he talked about therapy and coaching.

The Duke of Sussex took to the stage at the annual Masters of Scale Summit in San Francisco - just hours after a new bombshell interview by his wife Meghan Markle was released. His appearance saw him join Alexi Robichaux, the founder of coaching and mental health platform BetterUp, of which Harry is the chief impact officer, and podcaster Reid Hoffman. Harry's appearance at the summit was teased ahead of the event by BetterUp, which posted an image of the prince and wrote on its Twitter page: "BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux and Reid Hoffman are about to take the stage at the Masters of Scale Summit to discuss why leaders need to focus on their mental fitness.

"Any guesses who might be joining them for a surprise appearance?"

After the event, Dominique Taylor, the Chief People Officer of media company Axios, posted a snap of herself and Harry on Twitter and revealed they talked about "the power of BetterUp's therapy and coaching".

Last year, Harry revealed that he began serious therapy around six years ago following an argument with Meghan.

During the Apple documentary The Me You Can't See, which focuses on mental health, Harry admitted to needing therapy long before he sought it out.

It was only following a dispute with Meghan, that he decided to "deal with his past" in order to make his relationship work.

Harry's appearance at last night's event comes after Meghan opened up about the Queen's death for the first time in a new interview, admitting it was a "complicated time" for the family, while also sharing Prince Harry's emotional remark about his grandmother's death.

Speaking for a cover story in the latest edition of Variety magazine, she also reflected on the time she spent with the Monarch, who died on September 8, and revealed how the royal family are coping with the loss.

She said: "There’s been such an outpouring of love and support. I’m really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time.

"What’s so beautiful is to look at the legacy that his grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts. Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like.

"I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her. It’s been a complicated time, but my husband, ever the optimist, said, ‘Now she’s reunited with her husband.’

“I’ve reflected on that first official engagement that I had with her, how special that felt. I feel fortunate. And I continue to be proud to have had a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family.”
