Prince Harry has stunned royal watchers once again by shedding light on a personal disagreement with Prince William and Princess Kate that occurred around Easter — a dispute he claims unfolded just before his and Meghan Markle’s dramatic exit from Royal life.
Currently back in the UK for a crucial court hearing regarding his ongoing security battle, the Duke of Sussex has not met with King Charles during the trip, nor is a reunion with the Prince and Princess of Wales expected. This is despite Harry’s niece and nephews — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — being on school break. His visit comes as the divide between Harry and the rest of the Royal family continues to deepen.
In his memoir Spare, Harry detailed a tense conversation that took place in June 2018 at Nottingham Cottage, where he and Meghan hosted William and Kate to address the growing rift between Meghan and the Duchess of Cambridge, reports the Mirror.
“For 10 minutes, we did the classic small talk. How are the kids? How was your honeymoon?” Harry wrote. Meghan then tried to ease the tension, suggesting it stemmed from early misunderstandings within the family. “Kate thought Meg had wanted her fashion contacts. But Meg had her own,” Harry explained.

He continued, “They’d got off on the wrong foot perhaps? And then, Meg added, everything got magnified by the wedding and those infernal bridesmaids’ dresses.” Adding to the unexpected grievances, Harry claimed William and Kate were upset that they hadn’t received Easter gifts from the Sussexes. “But it turned out there were other things… about which we’d been unaware. Willy and Kate were apparently upset that we hadn’t given them Easter presents,” he revealed.
“Easter presents? Was that a thing?” Harry questioned. “Willy and I had never exchanged Easter presents. Pa always made a big deal about Easter, sure, but that was Pa. Still, if Willy and Kate were upset, we apologized.” Harry also noted a disruption during his wedding, stating, “We weren’t too pleased when Willy and Kate switched place cards and changed seats at our wedding… their table was the only one where spouses were apart.”
Now 40, Harry remains at odds with the Royal family. He has not seen King Charles in person for 14 months, despite both being in London recently — the King for postponed cancer treatment and Harry for legal proceedings. At the Royal Courts of Justice, Harry is challenging the decision to remove his publicly funded UK security.
His barrister, Shaheed Fatima KC, argued that he has been subjected to “unjustified and inferior treatment” and that the Sussexes were “forced” to step back from royal duties due to inadequate protection. Harry previously lost the case, but this latest hearing marks his final legal attempt to reverse that decision.
