Prince Harry Coronation snub would mean 'no relationship' with royals ever again - expert

It's less than a month until the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla - but the guest list is still not finalised.

That's because it is still unclear if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intend to come to the UK from their home in California for this historic event on May 6.

It has been confirmed that they have been invited but amid strained relations with Charles and Prince William, a decision on whether they will be in Westminster Abbey for the spectacle has not yet been made public.

The Coronation comes just months after Harry released his controversial memoir Spare, where he laid bare his troubled relationship with both his father and his brother.

And now royal author Alexander Larman, the writer behind the book The Windsor At War, has claimed that if Harry decided not to attend, it shows his relationship with his royal relatives is over - and it could impact his future.

Speaking on the Royally Us podcast, he explained: "It seems clear to me, Harry has no interest whatsoever in reconciling with his family.

"He's got a new life now, it is a completely different life. He can't go back to it, there is absolutely no possibility he is going to come back to Britain and lead a normal life.

"There has been a lot of discussion and a lot of speculation about will Harry and Meghan go to the Coronation.

"Now, I don't know what is going to happen. But I will be amazed if at least Harry doesn't because if he didn't go to the Coronation, he is essentially saying 'I'm not going to have any relationship with my family ever again'.

"Of course the trouble is when you stop being a member of the royal family, as the Duke of Windsor pretty much did, what do you have going for you instead?

"You're a celebrity, which is great, but you are a celebrity based on something which used to be - and that's quite a difficult long-term means of sustaining your fame."

However, if Harry and Meghan do decide to come to the Coronation, there is one part of the big day they won't be involved in - the balcony appearance.

The Mirror has revealed that the King and Queen will celebrate their historic day by appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony with working royals only.

His Majesty's decision to appear in the historic moment with just his closest and most loyal family members will show his vision of a slimmed-down monarchy, royal sources said.

The roaring finale event on Saturday, May 6, will also include a spectacular flypast over the royal family’s HQ.

Detailed plans seen by The Mirror reveal how the King has chosen to say thanks for the nation alongside a select few royals who have dedicated their lives to public service, while also showing "the heartbeat and future of his family".

The final group of 15 shows there is no place for Harry and Meghan alongside the likes of the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
