Prince Harry comments on Sir Elton John's friendship with Princess Diana in new personal video with Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to Sir Elton John's career as the singer performed his final US tour show over the weekend.

Harry touched on Elton's friendship with his late mother Princess Diana in a never-seen-before video, broadcast ahead of the gig on Disney+. The 75-year-old played his final US tour show at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, which was streamed live on the platform in the early hours of Monday morning (November 21).

The couple were among a number of stars who had messages to share ahead of Elton's farewell show. In the clip, Meghan spoke first, saying: "Hi Elton, we just wanted to say congratulations and that we are just so proud of you and that we were able to see you on your farewell tour also."

Harry continued, discussing the pair's friendship with the musician – and his bond with Princess Diana. He said: "And thank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades, thank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend, thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people around the world.

"Even though this is officially your retirement, this won't be your last gig, we know that, but we love you and congratulations on an incredible career." At the end of the clip, a smiling Meghan leans her head on Harry’s shoulder before blowing the camera a kiss.

Sir Elton's performance at the stadium included pyrotechnics, spectacular visuals and a surprise guest appearance from Dua Lipa. Throughout the evening he bombarded crowds with a barrage of hits including Tiny Dancer, Rocketman, I’m Still Standing, and Candle In The Wind, which he famously sang at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.

He also brought US singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and English singer Kiki Dee on stage to duet with him. In the past week he has played three nights at the Los Angeles stadium, with the final performance on Sunday.

The legendary singer has been performing at multiple venues around the US and Canada as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. With his LA shows concluded, Sir Elton will next visit Australia and New Zealand before embarking on European tour dates.

The run will end with two special concerts at Vicarage Road, the home of Watford Football Club of which Sir Elton became chairman in 1976, on July 3 and 4.
