Prince Harry claims Meghan Markle suffered miscarriage because of 'what the Mail did'

PRINCE Harry has claimed that his wife Meghan Markle suffered a miscarriage “because of what the Mail did” during her lawsuit battle with its publisher.

The sixth episode of the Netflix documentary on the couple reflects on Markle’s victory in her long-running case against Associated Newspapers – publisher of the Mail On Sunday and Mail Online.

She sued them over five articles which reproduced parts of a “personal and private letter” to her father.

Recounting the effect of the legal action, Markle said: “I was pregnant, I really wasn’t sleeping and the first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried.”

Harry added: “I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did. I watched the whole thing. Now, do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was caused by that – course we don’t.

“But bearing in mind the stress that caused, the lack of sleep and the timing of her pregnancy – how many weeks in she was – I can say from what I saw, that miscarriage was created by what they were trying to do to her.”

In a previous episode, Harry spoke about the “planting of stories” in the media. He said: “My dad said to me ‘Darling boy, you can’t take on the media, the media will always be the media’.

“And I said, ‘I fundamentally disagree’.

“It’s a dirty game. There is leaking but there is also planting of stories. So if the comms team want to be able to remove a negative story about their principal they will trade and give you something about someone else’s principal.”

Harry also addressed his decision to step back as a working royal, saying that it was down to him rather than his wife.

“I’ve seen little cartoons of me on all fours and her holding a dog lead, and me wearing the collar.

“How predictable that you know the woman is to be blamed for the decision of a couple”, he said.

“In fact, it was my decision. She never asked me to leave. I was the one that had to see it for myself. But it’s misogyny at its best.”

Markle added: “I mean, it took what felt like everything from me – your sense of self, your confidence.

“And the truth didn’t matter, and the clickbait did.”
