Prince Harry has arrived in Scotland following the death of his grandmother the Queen this afternoon. The Duke of Sussex appeared sombre as he was whisked to Balmoral Castle wearing a black suit and tie as he sat alone the back of a car.
The royal flew to Aberdeen several hours after his brother and two uncles had arrived into the city's airport, and did not see his grandmother before she passed. Prince Harry has been in the UK with his wife Meghan Markle on a tour and had been due to attend a charity event this evening, before the Queen's death was announced.
Harry and Meghan were due to travel together to Scotland following concern for the Queen's health, but it was later decided Meghan would remain in London. Harry was expected to make a speech at the ceremony, but both he and Meghan had to pull out of the event, which still went ahead. The Duke has been patron of WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children and their families, since 2007 and despite stepping down as a working royal has maintained his links with the organisation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on the last leg of their UK tour and had not yet seen the Queen or any of the royals during their visit. Harry and Meghan, who have been visiting Europe this week, attended the One Young World summit in Manchester on Monday.
Meghan delivered a keynote speech and declared it was "very nice to be back in the UK" and told the young leaders "you are the future, you are the present". It was their first public appearance in the UK since they joined other members of the royal family for events in June that celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
They also travelled to Dusseldorf in Germany on Tuesday, to mark the one-year countdown to The Invictus Games in the city, and thrilled fans when they went on a walkabout.
