Prince Harry and Meghan to present new Netflix documentary series called ‘Live to Lead’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are to present a new Netflix documentary series called Live To Lead.

The show premieres at 8am on December 31 and is set to feature interviews with leaders as they “reflect on their legacies and share messages of courage, compassion, humility, hope and generosity,” says Netflix.

A new promotional trailer features footage of figures including Nelson Mandela and climate change activist Greta Thunberg.

The show follows hot on the heels of the Sussexes’ controversial six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan which launched on Netflix this month - in which they made allegations about the royal family and gave their side of events that led to, and followed, their decision to step back from royal duties and move to the United States.

In the trailer for Live To Lead, which is executive produced by the Duke and Duchess, Prince Harry says: “This was inspired by Nelson Mandela, who once said ‘what counts in life is not the mere facts that we have lived...’”

“...’It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead’,” finishes Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

“It’s about people who have made brave choices,” says Harry, before Meghan adds: “To fight for change and to become leaders...”

“And giving inspiration to the rest of us,” finishes Harry. “To live, to lead.”

Netflix says the show “highlights the fundamental values, daily disciplines and guiding principles that leaders employ to motivate others and create meaningful change”.

The trailer also features archive footage of Ruth Bader Ginsberg - associate justice of the US Supreme Court from 1993 until her death in 2020 - saying: “At every turn in my life I thought ‘do I really want this?’ And if the answer’s yes, you find a way.”

Climate activist Greta Thunberg is also seen making an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit in 2019, aged 16, saying: “The eyes of all future generations are upon you, and if you choose to fail us we will never forgive you.”

Jacinda Ardern, prime minister of New Zealand since 2017, also features, saying: “As leaders we have the keys to create a sense of security and a sense of hope.”

Netflix says the series will feature interviews with the three women, as well as social justice attorney and advocate Bryan Stevenson; South Africa’s national rugby union team captain and social inequality campaigner Siya Kolisi; social justice activist Gloria Steinem; and anti-apartheid activist and former Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa Albie Sachs.

Live to Lead is a Nelson Mandela Foundation project, and is directed by Geoff Blackwell.
