Prince Harry and Meghan accused of 'betraying' the Queen in wake of Netflix show storm

In the wake on their controversial Netflix documentary, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of betraying the late Queen's trust.

Sources close to the Royal family reportedly believe the couple have failed to honour an agreement made with the monarch at Sandringham back in January 2020. The agreement was reached shortly before the Harry and Meghan made the move to the United States.

Following the important meeting, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have pledged that "everything they do" would "continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty".

Despite the rifts, a Palace statement released on behalf of Her Majesty at the time read: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family."

"It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life", reports The Mirror.

However, the couple's loyalty to Queen Elizabeth II and her legacy are now being questioned. The uncertainty follows a string of high-profile attacks on The Firm, including their bombshell interview with chat show host Oprah Winfrey.

And now the couple's tell-all documentary has been released, with the Netflix series spilling the tea on a range or royal secrets. The documentary also sees the Sussex's lash out at the institution itself, prompting one royal expert to suggest the truce is now broken.

Royal author Phil Dampier spoke to the Express just hours before the series dropped, arguing that the couple have disrespected both the late Queen and the new King, Harry's own father King Charles III.

He said: “Whatever their alleged grievances, the way that Harry and Meghan have behaved is a total betrayal exclusive of the Queen’s legacy. They have acted in a completely unacceptable way despite the attempts of the late Queen and his father to hold out an olive branch.”

It comes as the royals prepare for the likely media storm brewing following the released of the six-part docuseries "Harry & Meghan. The first three episodes dropped on the streaming service on Thursday, December 8.

The series will give an insight to the couple's life as well as including some "utterly explosive" content, experts claim. The six parter is set to portray several members of the Royal Family in an unflattering light.

One source in contact with a Netflix production insider said: “I genuinely think it’s going to be worse than the royals can imagine. I’m told that it’s going to be utterly explosive and will be very damaging.”

The released comes as Prince William and Katherine, Princess of Wales prepare for a special concert at Westminster Abbey. The concert is expected to feature a touching tribute to the late Queen.

Spearheaded by Princess Kate and supported by The Royal Foundation, the service will "recognise the selfless efforts of individuals, families and communities across the UK", while celebrating some of the late Monarch's values.

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will also be in attendance.
