Prince George's godmother has shared how she gets funny presents for the future king in a tribute to Princess Diana.
Julia Samuel, who was friends with Diana, said the late princess started the tradition that the godparent should buy a gift for the children that was the most hilariously inconvenient and difficult to make.
She shared her memories of the eccentric tradition in an episode of the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day.
“So I do to George what [Diana] did to us... which is give impossible toys which are really noisy, take a lot of making," she said.
“I come in slightly tipped by the size of the present that William then has to spend days putting together and then put all the machinery together.
"It makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that. That makes me laugh and it makes George laugh.”
Ms Samuel spoke about how much Diana would have loved her grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The godmother, 60, said the young prince "is amazing" and that it is "heartbreaking for all of them."
“He’s funny and feisty and cheeky and God [Diana] would have loved him so much. That is heartbreaking for all of them,” she added.
Ms Samuel, who is one of Prince George’s seven godparents, used to work in publishing before training as a counsellor, reports the Express.
She met Diana at a dinner party in 1987 and helped create Child Bereavement UK in 1994.
The godmother received an MBE in 2016 and now works as a bereavement counsellor in the paediatrics department at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl believes Prince William and Kate are careful when it comes to the presents they buy their children, despite living a life of privilege.
She told OK! magazine: “George enjoys his iPad at school, both he and Charlotte are quite tech-savvy and, like most children, there probably are technical gadgets and such like on their wish list.
“I'm sure they're not going to want for anything, but when it comes to technology and screens, they are careful not to spoil them with extravagant gifting.”
She added: “If it is something that happens to be a computer game or something like that then they are cautious of screen time so it could be a more practical gift.”
It follows reports that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are wanting to move from London to Windsor.
The couple made Kensington Palace their official home along with their three children after marrying in 2011.
They are regularly seen taking George, Charlotte and Louis on the school run and reportedly love doing fun activities such as baking, crafts and playing in the garden.
But Kate and William can be strict when needed according to a source who said there is one rule in their home that the couple is firm on keeping and will likely apply in the new house.
They told the Sun : "Shouting is absolutely ‘off limits’ for the children and any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal."
