Prince George's baffling reply when stranger asked him what his name is

As parents know, children can be unpredictable and you never know what they will say or do next.

And it seems Prince George is exactly the same - after he gave a very surprising answer when asked a simple question by a passer-by while out with his grandmother Carole Middleton.

George, who was then five years old, was playing in a stream with his younger sister Princess Charlotte near the Middleton family home in Buckleberry, Berkshire.

It was reported that a dog walker started chatting to the young royals, who wanted to stroke her dog - so she asked the young prince what his name was.

Speaking to The Sun, the woman said: "I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t, but George started stroking my dog.

"Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it."

And she added: "To my astonishment, he said 'I’m called Archie' with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely."

Of course, George has a cousin called Archie - although the incident took place before his birth in May 2019.

Like many royals, George, now eight, has several nicknames that he goes by.

Shortly after he was born it was revealed that his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started calling him PG - short for Prince George.

Eventually, they added the word Tips - after the famous teabag brand - but then tweaked the name again to just Tips.

Meanwhile, Charlotte also has a nickname given to her by her parents.

In a rare family video clip, William and Kate were joined by their children at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.

Kate had helped to design a garden for the show and George, Charlotte and Louis came along to have a look.

While playing on a swing in the garden, William calls out to his daughter, asking her to come and give him a push.

But instead of saying 'Charlotte', he calls for 'Mignonette'.

The French word is said to mean "small, sweet, and delicate" or "cute". Older French definitions also show it can mean gentle and kind.

It's rather different from the nickname Kate has previously been known to call her daughter - Lottie.
