Prince George 'learning to fly' as he takes first lesson with William and Kate watching on

Prince George is reportedly learning to fly and completed his first lesson in a plane with the Prince and Princess of Wales watching on.

The 11-year-old, who is second in line to the throne, enjoyed his first flight at Berkshire airfield last week on the final day of the summer holidays.

An eyewitness told the Sun: “He loved it. George is only 11 years old but it is the right time to start.

“The Royal Family has a proud tradition of flying and it looks like George is next in line.

“His parents watched George take flight from the safety of the ground but he flew with an instructor and loved it.”

Kate and William reportedly arrived in a three-car convoy at White Waltham Airfield, which is around 25-minute drive from their home in Windsor, before watching George take off.

The outing came days before the Princess of Wales, who has been undergoing treatment following a cancer diagnosis, released a video announcing she had completed her course of preventative chemotherapy.

The family reportedly spent time at the airfield’s clubhouse.

“Catherine and William watched George take off,” another eyewitness told the Sun.

“But they were relaxed about it. All three of them had been pretty chilled in the clubhouse.”

The Berkshire airfield is where Prince George’s great-grandfather, Prince Philip, trained to fly.

Prince George’s father, Prince William, is also a trained pilot. He trained at RAF Cranwell air force base in Lincolnshire, flying solo for the first time there and later received his wings from his father during a ceremony at Cranwell in 2008.

William remained in the RAF for much of his active military career, going on to fly as a helicopter pilot in the RAF Search and Rescue Force before becoming an air ambulance helicopter pilot.

Earlier this week, Prince William wore his RAF uniform as he gave a speech at the graduation ceremony of more than 50 officers who had completed their training at RAF College Cranwell.

The Duke of Sussex also graduated as an officer cadet from the military academy before going on to careers in the Armed Forces.

Last year, as the King inspected the 200th Royal Military Academy Sandhurst’s Sovereign’s Parade, he also spoke of his own experiences “surviving” military training.
