Prince George attended Aston Villa Champions League quarter-final match

Prince George was at the Aston Villa Vs Paris St-Germain game on April 9

Prince George of Wales and his father William, Prince of Wales cheered on Aston Villa in their thrilling Champions League quarter-final match against Paris St-Germain.

The football lovers were in the French capital on Wednesday (09.04.25) night hoping to see the Premier League side beat PSG, but they were left disappointed as they lost 3-1 in the Parc des Princes stadium.

Responding to TNT Sports pundits Rio Ferdinand's question about if the pair were on a "lad's tour" before the game, the 42-year-old heir to the throne - who predicted a 2-1 win - replied: "Well, I've got my son here as well, so I'm on best behaviour.

"But I thought, you know what, it's been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.

"I hope it's not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me."

Prince William and his 11-year-old son were seen with beaming smiles on their faces while punching the air and sharing a sweet embrace after the Birmingham-based squad's attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers put the team in the lead during the first half.

However, their dreams of seeing Villa reign victorious were quickly shattered as the French champions responded and went onto net three goals.

Prince William's wife Catherine, the Princess of Wales, and their two other children, Princess Charlotte of Wales, nine, and Prince Louis of Wales, six, were absent from the game.

Asked if he wants his children to support his team - who are seventh in the Premier League - the Patron of the Football Association (FA) responded that he is "generally very open to whoever they support".

He added: "But, obviously, I'm a bit biased. But also they come to games with Villa.

"They're going to probably support Villa, but I've left the other two at home, probably watching tonight, so we'll wait and see who they support."

Prince William has been a fan of Aston Villa since his school days, and he chose to back the team because he " didn't want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams" of others, such as Chelsea or Manchester United.

He told BBC Sport in 2015: "A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs.

"All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn't want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams.

"I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments."
