Prince George and Princess Charlotte's new names and places in the line to the throne

The Royal Family have confirmed the new line of succession following the death of the Queen. Britain's longest-reigning monarch passed away on Thursday, September 8.

King Charles III, formerly Prince Charles, was formally declared head of state during a historic ceremony on Saturday, September 10. You can read more on this here. Following the proclamation, a new hierarchy has been created, with Prince William now first in line to the throne. Prince William and Kate Middleton will now become Prince and Princess of Wales.

As a result of William and Kate inheriting the King and Queen Consort's former titles, their children will now be known as "of Wales". George and Louis' titles are now Prince George of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales, as Charlotte becomes Princess Charlotte of Wales.

Previously they were Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and Prince Louis of Cambridge. Prince George is now second in line to the throne followed by his sister Charlotte in third and brother Louis in fourth. Prince Harry is now fifth in line to become King.

Regulation states that a person of any age can become monarch, but children are not permitted to carry out duties until they reach the age of 18. Therefore, if it came to it and George suddenly became sovereign in the next few years, George would serve as a "symbolic" king until he was considered an adult.
