Prince Charles would be "saddened" if Megan Markle's latest tell-all interview led to him losing his relationship with Prince Harry, sources claim. The Duchess of Sussex spoke openly about she and Harry's decision to step down from their role as senior royals in a new bombshell interview with US magazine The Cut - and claimed they were 'happy' to leave the UK.
However, her latest revelations have caused a stir within the royal family, with the Prince of Wales reportedly hurt by Meghan's suggestion that Harry had 'lost' her father. The former actress told The Cut: "Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process.’ It doesn’t have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that’s his decision."
According to the Mirror, a source close to the future King said he would be upset if his Harry felt their relationship could not be saved, saying: "The Prince of Wales loves both his sons". Meghan's team have since said her comments have been misconstrued, as the 41-year-old was actually referring to her own father, Thomas Markle, who she has not been in contact with since the royal wedding in 2018.
Prince Charles stepped in last minute to walk Meghan down the aisle at her wedding to Harry at Windsor Castle. But Harry's relationship with his father has been said to be tense since the couple's departure from being working royals.
He said during their televised interview with Oprah Winfrey last year that Charles had stopped taking his calls. In her latest interview Meghan, who is currently promoting her new podcast Archetypes, said the family's move to the US was necessary to secure financial freedom.
She defended the move by saying it was not “reinventing the wheel”, claiming a “handful of princes and princesses and dukes” already have the “very arrangement they wanted”. The mum-of-two did not name those she was referring to.
Another bombshell came when Meghan told the magazine she was willing to go to another Commonwealth country and work on behalf of the Royal Family - but only if the Sussexes were able to make their own money. "Then maybe all the noise would stop,” she added.
Meghan also revealed that she believes there is "room for forgiveness" between herself and the Royal Family. "I think forgiveness is really important," she told the magazine.
"It takes a lot more energy to not forgive, but it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I've really made an active effort, especially knowing that I can say anything."
Prince Harry meanwhile added his own thoughts on the Firm with a sharp comment about their unusual duties, saying: “Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together”.
