Prince Andrew was last night urged to take action on his vow to make a stand over child sex trafficking.
The message came from a lawyer seeking to call him as a witness in the sex abuse case against Jeffrey Epstein’s estate.
Florida-based lawyer Spencer Kuvin represents Caroline Kaufman, who named Andrew in court documents filed against Epstein two years ago. She claims that Epstein raped her at his mansion in New York.
The incident is alleged to have happened while Andrew was staying at the house in December 2010.
During that visit, the prince was famously pictured with convicted paedophile Epstein in Central Park.
Kuvin said: “At the time the incident occurred, our client was attending an event that was at the Epstein mansion in New York.
“At that event was Prince Andrew. She has identified him as being there.
“As a consequence of him being present at the home at that time, he is potentially an eyewitness who can identify the fact she was in the home along with others.”
It comes weeks after Andrew made an undisclosed financial settlement – believed to be about £7million – to his own accuser, Virginia Giuffre.
The payment formally ended a civil case brought against him in the US.
At the time, he released a statement pledging “to demonstrate regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking and by supporting its victims”.
Kuvin added: “To get the prince to give a deposition would take a lot of legal back and forth. It would mean using the channel that Virginia Giuffre and her team employed and, of course, engaging with Andrew’s legal counsel.
“The way to get there would be through the various legal agreements between the US and UK. As well as the legal means, we would appeal to Andrew to reflect on the statement he made after settling with Virginia.
"He is on record saying he wants to fight the evils of sex trafficking and to support its victims.
“We would expect him to be true to his word and to step up and help Caroline, who has been just the victim he has pledged to help, a victim at the hands of Andrew’s one-time friends, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.”
Caroline, who was aged 17 at the time of the alleged offence, said she was invited to Epstein’s home by an associate for a “modelling interview”.
She claims she was escorted to a massage room by an “older woman” she believes to be Maxwell, where she was raped by Epstein.
In the documents, Caroline named Prince Andrew, claiming the royal was present at Epstein’s New York mansion when she was raped by the late billionaire.
She did not claim that the Duke of York took part in the incident.
Kuvin said: “She was met by Ghislaine Maxwell who said she would take her to meet her boss and she gave Caroline a bikini to put on.
“She was then escorted not into a meeting room, into a massage room where Epstein was already naked on a massage table.
“Epstein got off the table, threw her against the massage table and began to rape her. She screamed for help and got none. $500 was thrown at her.
“Maxwell took her out and told her Epstein was a powerful man who knew presidents and if she said anything he would kill her and her family.”
A spokesman for Prince Andrew declined to comment.
