Prince Andrew 'trying to frighten King into paying up' with memoir, claims Camilla's pal

Prince Andrew is reportedly looking to write an explosive autobiography but Queen Consort Camilla's friend Petronella Wyatt told Good Morning Britain this would be the "worst idea since Titanic".

Host Susanna Reid began: "When Kevin Maguire from the Mirror was here an hour ago he suggested this is a threat to the King."

"What I was thinking last night was that this is a faint and he's trying to frighten the King into giving him a lump sum of money because I'm not sure he is 100 percent serious about writing a book," Petronella replied.

"He's casting around for ways in which to panic the family."

Susanna asked: "Will it work?" to which Camilla's friend replied: "I don't know but the timing isn't great, the timing is embarrassing."

The Good Morning Britain host suggested Andrew could follow in Prince Harry's footsteps after the Duke of Sussex's autobiography became the UK's fastest-selling memoir, shifting more than 400,000 copies on the day of its official release.

However, Petronella argued that Andrew and Sarah Ferguson "don't have the same level of celebrity as Harry and Meghan [Markle]".

The British journalist and author compared Andrew to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and claimed the Duke of York is focussed on repairing his damaged reputation.

"He wants to clear his name, he wants everybody to love him but the more he tries to clear his name the worst he looks," Petronella quipped.

The Duke of York is reportedly in talks with a US author who has previously worked with high-profile celebrities and politicians to help him tell his story in an explosive autobiography.

There are also two publishers allegedly already interested in Andrew's autobiography.

Prince Andrew is also keen to "fully explain his association with Jeffrey Epstein and the resulting fall-out", a source told the Daily Mail.

They said: "Andrew was the original spare and there’s plenty of material. Compared to Harry, he has a far greater depth of history to draw from.

"It would also be a fascinating insight into the inner workings of the royals and their relationships."
