Prince Andrew sells Swiss ski chalet for £19 million amid mounting legal costs

Prince Andrew has managed to sell his Swiss ski chalet for £19 million after more than a year of complications over 'business debt', according to reports.

The chalet in Verbier in Switzerland was bought by a British family amid a year of wrangling over a "business debt" of £1.6 million.

Prince Andrew put the property up for sale in 2020 amid mounting legal costs relating to the civil case brought against him by Virginia Giuffre.

Virginia Giuffre brought the civil case alleging that Prince Andrew had forced her to have sex with him on three occasions in 2001, when she was 17 years old.

Prince Andrew denied the claims, but ultimately agreed to a settlement which was rumoured to be worth around £9.8 million.

The disgraced royal had intended to sell the chalet, which has seven bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, sauna, sun terrace, and bar, to cover costs, but met with complications over a debt to a Swiss couple.

This came in the form of a freezing order on the property in order to guarantee that the couple, who had entered a business arrangement with Andrew, would receive the £1.6 million owed to them by the prince.

However, other reports have suggested that the order did not block the sale, as the sale has now gone through while the matter of the debt remains unresolved.

French socialite Isabelle de Rouvre has also had business run ins with Andrew in the past over a £6 million debt he owed her for the chalet.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said of Andrew: "He is an absolute fool and I just cannot understand how he goes about his life."

Andrew has now withdrawn from public life amid allegations of sexual abuse, including with girls under the age of 18.

The prince was also known for his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, as well as human trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

Allegations about Prince Andrew came into the public sphere following an explosive interview with the BBC's Emily Maitliss in which Andrew claimed he had been Pizza Express in Woking when alleged offences had taken place, and that he had a condition which meant he cannot sweat.
