Prince Andrew 'ridiculed by aides with nursery rhyme' after £12 million court settlement

A group of aides at Buckingham Palace are allegedly mocking Prince Andrew using a modified version of a nursery rhyme, after his £12 million court settlement, it has been claimed.

As reported by the Mirror, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, shelled out the unbelievable amount in order to spare court, after Virginia Giuffre accused him of trafficking and sexually assaulting her as a minor.

The royal family member, who turned 62 on Saturday, has denied the claims, and has also said he has never met Virginia.

Virginia has claimed she met the royal through his late friend Jeffrey Epstein - a convicted sex offender.

Royal aides are allegedly going around singing The Grand Old Duke of York, with different lyrics that reference his claims that he has never met Ms Giuffre, as reported by the Sunday Times.

The lyrics are as follows: "The grand old Duke of York, he had 12 million quid.

"He gave it to someone he’d never met, for something he never did."

In an interview in 2019 with the BBC'S Emily Maitlis on Newsnight, Prince Andrew said he had "no recollection" of meeting the trafficking victim.

This is despite a photo - believed to have been taken in London in 2001 - in which he is seen with his arm around a then-17-year-old Ms Giuffre, as convicted trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell stands in the background.

The Duke has also claimed that the photo is fake, and Ms Guiffre has alleged that Andrew had sex with her three times while she was a teen and underage in the eyes of US law.

The royal told Ms Maitlis he didn't regret his friendship with Epstein, and received a major backlash in light of the charges against the late financier.

But sources close to him have now told the Sunday Times there is "genuine regret he was ever involved with Epstein".

They added: "He is remorseful, particularly about the impact it has had on his mother and his family."

The same sources say the £12million settlement figure is "out by millions".
