Prince and Kylie Minogue collaboration recording lost, possibly never released

Prince and Kylie Minogue collaborated on a song together.

During a recent interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, popular Australian singer Kylie Minogue shared an intriguing story about a collaboration she had with the legendary artist Prince. However, the fate of their collaboration remains unknown, as Minogue admitted that she has lost track of the recording.

Minogue, now 55 years old, recounted how she first met Prince at one of his concerts in London back in the early '90s. After the show, she had the opportunity to meet him backstage. Excited and perhaps a bit nervous, Minogue mentioned that she was working on an album and asked if he would be interested in collaborating with her.

To her surprise, Prince showed interest and extended an invitation for her to visit him in Minneapolis. Minogue met up with him at his hotel in London shortly thereafter. She was dazzled by the presence of a studio that Prince had set up wherever he went. It was equipped with specially programmed instruments and even contained Prince samples.

Eager to begin their collaboration, Prince asked Minogue if she had any lyrics prepared. She promptly sent him some, not knowing what to expect. The very next day, a car arrived at her apartment, delivering a cassette tape. To her astonishment, it was Prince singing a song he had written based on her lyrics. It seemed that Prince wasted no time in bringing their collaboration to life.

However, the story takes a twist when Minogue reveals that she no longer knows where that historical cassette tape is today. In a lighthearted moment during the interview, Minogue speculated that perhaps the tape is somewhere within Prince's estate.

Despite not knowing the whereabouts of their collaborative work, Minogue expressed her gratitude for the experience and reflected on her long-standing admiration for Prince. She revealed that as a 14-year-old, she dreamt of meeting him and now feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a legendary artist.

Minogue's appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show comes just days before the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she is nominated in the best pop/dance recording category for her hit single 'Padam Padam.'

While the Prince and Kylie Minogue collaboration may remain unseen by the public, the mere mention of it reminds us of the unpredictable and extraordinary moments that can occur in the music industry. Perhaps one day, the lost tape will resurface, allowing fans to experience the magic that these two musical icons created together.
