Prime Minister Liz Truss to hold press conference today

Prime Minister Liz Truss will hold a press conference later today.

The press conference comes amid speculation that the Prime Minister could make a U-turn on key elements of the controversial mini-budget following widespread criticism.

It would be the latest in a series of screeching U-turns performed by the Prime Minister since she took office just over a month ago. Ms Truss and Mr Kwarteng have already been forced to U-turn on tax cuts for the UK's highest earners - and it's expected that they could now drop plans to cut corporation tax.

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng cut short a trip to visit to the International Monetary Fund's annual meeting in Washington and has returned to UK for crisis talks over the budget. Mr Kwarteng bowed to pressure to bring forward his latest fiscal plan to 31 October, alongside a forecast from the Office for Budget Responsibility.

It's not yet know whether the Chancellor will be present at the press conference this Friday. The briefing is expected to be held at 2pm, according to reports.
