Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign today, reports suggest

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will resign today. Reports from the BBC suggest Mr Johnson will resign as Conservative Party leader.

Mr Johnson, who was elected with 66% of the votes, has decided to resign following a spate of ministerial resignations. It comes after he claimed he had forgotten he was told about deputy chief whip Chris Pincher's groping allegations before his appointment, despite it coming to light he had in fact known about them as far back as 2019.

The PM has spoken to Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down, with a new Tory leader set to be in place by the party conference in October, a No 10 source said.
