Prime Minister Boris Johnson responds to 'horrific' killing of Olivia Pratt-Korbel

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reacted to the tragic killing of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Mr Johnson tweeted this afternoon to say that his thoughts were with the family of the nine-year-old who was shot dead in Dovecot last night. Police are hunting a man who burst into her home and fired the bullets that killed her.

Mr Johnson said: "My thoughts are with Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s family and the people of Liverpool following this horrific, senseless shooting. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will ensure Merseyside Police get whatever they need to catch those responsible and secure justice for Olivia."

His comments come after Home Secretary Priti Patel also offered to send further resources to Merseyside Police as they try to track down Olivia's killer. She said: "This morning, I have spoken to the Chief Constable for Merseyside Police about the tragic shooting in Liverpool last night. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the 9-year-old girl who has died.

"It is important that anyone with information comes forward to assist the police with their investigations. The force has my full support and will receive any additional resources they need."

Earlier Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Liberal Democrat counterpart Ed Davey also shared tweets of condolence and support.

The appalling news has shocked the city and the region and earlier today the headteacher of Olivia's school, St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School in Huyton, spoke about a wonderful and bubbly little girl who would always try to help others.

Rebecca Wilkinson said : "Our school community is devastated at the sad loss of Olivia. We are in shock and disbelief at such tragic news.

“Olivia was a much loved member of our school. She had a beautiful smile, a lovely sense of humour, and a bubbly personality. She was kind hearted and would go out of her way to help others. She loved to perform and recently participated in the school production of The Wizard of Oz.

"Olivia will be missed greatly by staff and children at our school. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this extremely sad time.”

Anyone with information that could help police to find Olivia's killer is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting log 1083 of August 22.
