After months upon months of speculation and whispers, it’s been reported that the Federal Election will take place on May 3.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to head to Government House on Friday, March 28, to call the Federal Election for May 3, ABC News reports.
With that date, Albo and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will be given five-weeks to lip sync for their lives — I mean, to campaign for Australia’s votes.
It’s giving Australian Idol, but more high steaks, not that glam and everyone sucks… at singing.
Per SBS News, Labor will be heading into the election with 77 of the 152 seats in the House of Representatives, and the Opposition will be heading in with 53 and 19 crossbench MPs.
News of the Federal Election’s official date comes after the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet accidentally posted that it was in “caretaker mode” on social media.
“Caretaker mode” only happens when a Federal Election is called and parliament is dissolved.
the department of Prime Minister & Cabinet had posted (and now deleted) a tweet saying the government was now in caretaker mode (which comes after the election is called)

am told this was a mistake, and that they're **not** in caretaker mode (yet)

When the Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet Glyn Davis was asked about the post by Shadow Attorney-General Michaelia Cash, Davis said the X (formerly Twitter) announcement was “clearly an error”.
“I will just say obviously this is an error and we apologise for that – it was up for a period of four minutes – I became aware of it approximately nine minutes ago, and my corporate colleagues are addressing how this occurred,” Davis said per 9News.
“I can assure you we are not in caretaker.
“This is clearly an error; we are trying to find out why it occurred, and we apologise.”
That being said, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve got five weeks to saddle up, process all those election promises and get to those cardboard booths.
Good luck, and don’t fuck it up, Australia.
