Prime energy drink chaos as shoppers queue for hours at Leeds Aldi store

Shoppers who had queued through the early hours of this morning were left disappointed at one Aldi store in Leeds after it sold out of the hugely sought-after Prime drink "within minutes".

Customers have queued for hours outside Aldi stores across Yorkshire today in the hope of getting their hands on the 'rehydration energy drink'. The drink, launched by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, has become an internet sensation since its release, particularly among younger people.

Aldi announced on Wednesday that it would be selling three flavours of the drink for £1.99 each. Shoppers were limited to one bottle per flavour.

But stocks flew off the shelves leaving many disappointed. In Yarm, North Yorkshire, despondent customers walked away from the supermarket after not getting their hands on a ticket that enabled them to buy a bottle of the drink.

And in Morley, Prime reportedly sold out "within minutes." One customer wrote: "Aldi had sold out of Prime within minutes, just in case anyone else was making a special trip."

In nearby Teesside, shoppers queued from as early as 5.30am in the hope of getting their hands on the illusive drink. One customer who braved their weekly shop at the same time as the release said the drink had sold out within ten minutes.

In a statement, Aldi said: "The viral hydration drink created by two popular YouTube stars, KSI and Logan Paul, is available to buy for just £1.99 in Aldi stores nationwide on December 29. The drink will be a Specialbuy – and as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone!

"The supermarket is expecting high demand so a purchase limit of one of each variant per customer has been set to ensure as many people as possible get the opportunity to buy the product."
