A primary school in Lanarkshire is celebrating gaining a new reading accreditation.
Calderbridge Primary in Wishaw is the first school in Lanarkshire to receive the award of being reading school accredited.
Reading Schools is an accreditation programme for schools that are committed to building a reading culture for their learners and communities.
To achieve this, the school formed a literacy leader's group made up of staff and pupils.
The pupil leaders are Oliver Cairns P7, Areeb Farooq P6, Samantha McGeachie P7, Aaron Cairns P5 and Ellie Tetlow P5.
Together they carried out some self-evaluation to see what they were doing well as a school already to create and promote a reading culture at Calderbridge.
Throughout the year the school has developed a number of things including the creation of a library that classes use weekly with a focus on reading for enjoyment.
Headteacher Laura Livingstone said: "We ran a focus week with lots of book-related events including an escape room, interactive bear hunt, bedtime stories, storybook hunts and a daily book character mystery challenge.
"We also plan exciting and engaging learning across the curriculum which promotes reading, for example using newspapers and the internet to learn about real-life issues and events such as COP26.
"Our next steps are to work with our wider community to develop this even further and we are delighted to be recognised for our progress and achievement and to be given accreditation."
