A Nottinghamshire primary school is ecstatic after an Ofsted inspection gave them their best grading in years.
Robert Shaw Primary School on Southfield Road, Beechdale has been labelled 'good' in all areas, following on from a previous inspection in 2017 which said the school 'requires improvement'.
The school joined the Transform Trust group in 2017.
Headteacher Karen Coker said: "We are one big family here at Robert Shaw and are committed to making sure our children thrive. We are a good school, and our staff work so hard every single day for every single child.
“The entire Robert Shaw community is incredibly proud of all that we have achieved. We are so delighted and humbled by the number of congratulations and tributes we have received from the families we serve.
"Our partnership is precious and has undoubtedly contributed to our improvement journey and remains crucial to ensuring that our children continue to have the very best education they deserve.
“Of course, the children are central to all we do. However, I would like to recognise the continual hard work and dedication of our staff. These are the people that make the biggest difference to our Robert Shaw children every single day.
“Whilst we are thrilled with our ‘Good’ our hard work will continue. Our goal is to become a centre of excellence for our children today and in the future.”
Ofsted praised leaders’ efforts since the previous inspection, highlighting the quality of leadership from Transform Trust, Governors and the school's leadership team.
The report states “This is a school that celebrates diversity and is proud to serve the community.
"Children begin their learning journey understanding how to be citizens of Nottingham and then widening their lens to learn as citizens of the world.”
Pupils told inspectors “It doesn’t matter what colour your skin is, or what your beliefs are. What matters is your personality and who you are.”
Pupils also spoke enthusiastically about their best-loved poets and favourite authors and their enjoyment in reading together every day.
The school’s provision for reading was highly commended by the inspectors as they stated: “Teachers make reading engaging and promote a love of books” and a deep dive of both English and Mathematics assured inspectors that the sequence of learning allowed for rapid progression and improved outcomes."
Parents were also consulted as part of the inspection and conveyed their pride in the school and all of its achievements for their children.
Transform Trust CEO Rebecca Meredith added: “We are so proud of our schools – we are all on an improvement journey together
"It’s wonderful to see such progress at Robert Shaw. Karen and her team are clearly devoted to the children and community, and I know they will continue to inspire and improve every step of the way. It is wonderful that Ofsted has recognised the immense efforts involved and improvement to date and the school’s inclusive culture."
