A young child has been killed and another seriously injured in a head-on crash in Melbourne's outer southeast.
The vehicles crashed on the Maroondah Highway just after 4pm on Friday, police said.
A primary school-age child died at the scene, while another from the same vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Their driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Maroondah Highway between Melba Highway and St Huberts Road will remain closed while major crash detectives investigate the deadly collision and process the scene.
It comes after a 12-year-old girl was killed on Wednesday in a separate head-on crash on the Hamilton Highway in Stonehaven, about 10km west of Geelong.
Police allege the disqualified driver behind the wheel of the other car, a 28-year-old North Shore man, was speeding and overtaking other motorists in the lead-up to the crash.
He was released from hospital on Friday and will be interviewed by detectives, with charges yet to be laid.
