Primark to give thousands of staff a pay rise as hourly rate rises to £11

Primark has today announced that all retail assistants across Scotland and the rest of the UK are to receive an average pay rise of 12 percent this week.

The fast-fashion retailer, which currently operates 930 stores across the country, has confirmed that 26,000 colleagues will see their hourly pay boosted to £11 an hour.

The pay rise will come into effect for the fashion chain's retail assistants across Scotland, England and Wales from Saturday, April 1.

Staff members based in London will see their hourly rate increase to £11.51.

It means that Primark's new rate of pay for its workers is now higher than the UK's National Living Wage, which is currently £10.42 an hour.

This is the second time in a year that Primark staff have seen an increase on their payslip, as the retailer previously boosted the hourly pay by 12 percent in 2022.

The April pay rise will also mean that thousands of the retailer's staff members are now being paid 24 percent more than they were previously being paid in 2021.

Additionally, Primark will also be removing any age-related pay's for anyone under the age of 23, meaning all retail assistants will be will be moved onto one rate of pay.

We want all of our colleagues to continue to be competitively rewarded for their work and this pay increase reflects our commitment to continue to invest in our people and our stores as we continue to grow."

Primark's move comes after a range of other major retailers across the UK announced pay rises for their workers this year.

Amazon, Pret A Manger, Costa and Aldi are just a few of the retailer's that have confirmed that staff members will be receiving further boosts to hourly pay to more than the new National Living Wage.
