Primark has been on the receiving end of some unflattering comments over a pair of shoes that some shoppers are calling "granny sandals".
The fast-fashion giant is usually a hit with shoppers looking for cute budget buys, but it looks like they have made a rare misfire, judging by the divided response they have received on social media.
It comes as shoppers had similar comments on the budget retailer's new line of £20 quilted jackets that they all called "granny coats."
Primark took to social media to share a snap of their new divisive buckled sandals that cost just £12 a pair. Available in black and cream, the shoes feature a sling back style, knitted straps and gold buckle design.
Despite all the features of a stylish pair of shoes, shoppers cannot decide whether they are "the ugliest thing they have seen", or "cute."
Sharing the divisive snap to their 9.4 million fans on Instagram, Primark wrote : "Black or cream, which will you choose? Buckle Sandals £12/€15/$16 #Primark #InStoreNow."
The post has since racked up thousands of likes and comments from shoppers who are thoroughly mixed on the budget shoes.
"The ugliest things I’ve ever seen", said one unenthusiastic shopper.
"Gross. They remind me of the sanders old ladies used to wear when I was a kid", said a second.
"An absolute no from me. granny shoes. sorry if I offend anyone!", agreed a third.
While a fourth said: "Just no."
Despite harsh criticism from some shoppers, quite a few of Primark's loyal fans were quite taken with the sandals and thought they were "cute."
"How CUTE!!!", commented one enthusiastic shopper.
"Need these", said a second complimentary fan.
"Love these hope they still have them in my local store", said a third.
"Omg I love these sandals", praised a fourth.
Quite a few shoppers who had already purchased the sandals in-store said that they were "so comfy" and "had been worn every day."
Primark's £12 buckle sandals are available in cream and black. They are available in-stores now.
