Adam Clery was one of the shoppers who noticed the bakes and sausage rolls strategically placed in the display and in the model's outfits.

He said: "I would have missed it, but a few people were pointing at it going “what’s a sausage roll doing there??"

"And I can’t think of many sentences more likely to get my attention."

He continued: "I can’t decide if it’s someone at Primark having a laugh, Greggs doing some clever marketing via a break in, or the brand collab I think we’ve all been crying out for."

Many took to social media after seeing the unique display in Newcastle city centre.

Sophie Marshall said: "Every true blood Geordie can relate. Greggs on the go always."

Antony Riches said: "Only Geordies! Amazing sense of humour."

Chris Rogers added: "Now that is funny."

On January 5, Primark posted a video of a shop receipt and on the list of bought item were iconic Gregg's products such as a steak bake, sausage roll and jam doughnut.

Responding to queries about whether they are hinting at instore Gregg's cafes, the company said "we are cooking up something great" and "we can't wait to share it with you… well, not all of it."

Greggs, meanwhile, said there is "more to be revealed soon".
