Low-cost fashion retailer Primark is launching a click-and-collect trial in 25 stores - but only children's clothing will be initially available.
The chain, which has stores in Newcastle, Metrocentre, Sunderland and Hartlepool, relaunched its website earlier this year, but does not let shoppers buy online. The trial will be in 25 stores in the North West of England, although Primark will not yet reveal the stores taking part.
The pilot is starting with children's products because of "unfulfilled demand" and because the retailer thinks this will drive people to its stores. A spokesperson for Primark told The Mirror: "Our average-size stores are only able to stock a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will broadly double, increasing even more for customers of our small stores. This trial will enable us to provide more fashion, licence and lifestyle products to more customers and more often.”

The fashion firm will have 2,000 items included in the click-and-collect scheme, including clothing, accessories and lifestyle products, and around 800 of those items will only be available through click-and-collect.
Primark added that the click-and-collect trial will help out customers who cannot access its biggest stores "Our average size stores are only able to stock a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will broadly double, increasing even more for customers of our small stores.," the spokesperson said. “This trial will enable us to provide more fashion, licence and lifestyle products to more customers and more often.”
The 25 Primark stores taking part will have dedicated collection areas in each outlet. The click-and-collect service will be free and free returns are allowed if you take items back to the store.
