Primark's website crashes after finally launching click and collect service

Primark’s website crashed after the retailer launched its new Click and Collect service online.

The budget friendly retailer differed from its high street competitors in that it didn’t give shoppers the option to buy online and relied solely on in-store purchases. This changed today as people were finally able to try out click and collect at 25 of its UK stores - including Liverpool, Birkenhead and Wallasey.

The new service has proven so popular that the retailer’s website has crashed. Some shoppers reported an error screen when trying to access the Primark website this morning, reports the Mirror .

One message read: "Site Unavailable. Oops, sorry we didn’t let you access Primark.com today." Primark said it was aware some people had been having trouble accessing its website.

A Primark spokesperson said: “It’s been great to see so much interest in the launch of our new click and collect trial. We’re aware that some people have had issues accessing the website this morning and we’re working hard to address this to ensure that everyone can access and browse the site easily.”

The new click and collect service went live today across 25 stores, located in the North West of England, Yorkshire and North Wales. The click and collect trial only includes kids toys, clothing and nursery ranges. The new service is free to use but there is a minimum order spend of £15. Free returns are available if you need to take an item back.

Around 2,000 products are available to click and collect - including around 800 that will be exclusive to the service. However, you still can’t order products for home delivery online, despite many pleas from shoppers over the years.
