Primark responds to angry shoppers over price gap between gendered sunglasses

Primark is a haven if you're looking for bargains - they always have super stylish clothes and accessories to choose from. There's always one coveted item trending on social media that people run to Primark for, whether it's two pieces rivalling Zara's, or a coat similar to one from North Face.

One woman took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook page to compare two pairs of sunglasses, thinking that one of them was just a bargain as it was almost half the price of the other pair - but there was a catch.

She shared a picture of two identical pairs of sunglasses, that had different price tags.

The sneaky shopper found a way to bag things for almost half price (Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK / Facebook)

The bargain hunter captioned the picture: "Primark woman's left men's right." The sunglasses that were women's cost just £2.50, whereas the men's ones were £4.

In the comments, people were shocked that there was a £1.50 price difference for the exact same product, but someone defended the bargain brand.

They wrote: "Maybe someone just put a more expensive pair on a £2.50 bit of plastic. I work in retail and it happens all the time. People will just swap labels."

Another fumed: "It is the same with the Jordan dupes, kids and women's are £14 the men's are £18!"

Someone else pointed out that often even the clothes are the same in both sections, writing: "I ended up with 'men's' Christmas jammies from Primark because they didn't have any women's in my size....but they were EXACTLY the same. Lol!"

Others told of similar things that had happened to them in store, commenting: "I bought a man's scarf for £1 in winter and went upstairs and women's were £6."

Another shopper said: "I noticed this with the invisible socks with the silicone kind of bit on the heel section to keep them on your feet.. same sizes but cheaper in the women's section!"

So it looks like it's best to have a proper browse around the store so you know you're getting the bargains, as similar items could be cheaper in other sections.

A Primark spokesperson said: "We're sorry for any confusion caused by a pair of women's sunglasses which have been packaged and labelled incorrectly. The sale price is £2.50 and will honour this at the till."
