High fashion comes with a high price tag, but there will always be a trusty high street brand where you can get the look for less. And now, Primark shoppers can pick up a bag that looks just like a Balenciaga at none other than Primark.
TikTok users pointed out that the gold crocodile effect bag, which costs £6, looked pretty similar to the £1,690 Balenciaga Hourglass XS gold crocodile-effect top handle bag - so I headed in store to see if I could find it.
Primark have launched similar bags in the past mimicking the hourglass shape of the luxury version, in bright colours like pink and blue. But this gold number could be perfect for nights out for a little bit of glam at a much lower price.

Browsing the rails and rails of bags, I almost missed this pint-sized purse among the totes and crossbody bags, mostly because there were only four left on the shelf, proving them to have been popular with shoppers.
Next to it, a metallic blue version of the bag hadn’t been snapped up quite so quickly, but looked undeniably boujee.
The Balenciaga bag is made of leather with a gold leather handle and detachable, adjustable shoulder strap. The purse itself measures 7.5 inches across, and has a crocodile effect with the designer plaque and gold hardware.
The designer brand said: “All that glitters is Balenciaga’s gold Hourglass top handle bag. Scaled to XS proportions, its curved profile is crafted from metallic crocodile-effect leather that coordinates with the swinging B logo plaque and detachable shoulder strap.”
Primark’s version sees that same curved shape, which sees it stand well on its own on a table. It's very similar in size to the Balenciaga, with enough room for phone, bank card, keys and a lipstick inside.
The bag has its own detachable long strap which can turn it into a crossbody for hands-free wearing, with gold hardware to bring the design together.
At £1,684 cheaper, this Primark purse is a suitable substitute for the Balenciaga if you haven’t got a grand and a half lying around. It certainly looks pretty glam for the price - you could buy it in every colour and it’d still cost you less than one Balenciaga.
