Price of hotel rooms in Cardiff rise by hundreds with some going for £600 a night for Beyoncé gig

The price of hotel rooms in Cardiff have skyrocketed ahead of Beyoncé's huge Principality Stadium gig in May. The superstar has announced that she will be returning to Cardiff on May 17, 2023 as part of her Renaissance tour.

General sale tickets went on sale from 10am Tuesday, February 7, as more than half a million fans joined the Ticketmaster online queues. And for those people lucky enough to have bagged tickets, they could be faced with another eye watering cost for accommodation as the cost of hotel rooms in the capital on the night surge by hundreds of pounds.

Hundreds of hotel rooms already sold out for the night of the gig even before the tickets went on general sale. On Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after Queen Bey announced the Cardiff date, all Premier Inn hotels in the city appeared to be booked up. Find out all about the ticket prices here.

A search on the Premier Inn website for May 17 showed that the nearest hotels to Cardiff with available rooms - both double and single rooms - were Newport and Llantrisant. And it was a similar picture for those looking to book Travelodge, with the only available hotel showing as Whitchurch in Cardiff north. Even so, a room for May 17 would set you back £199. For comparison, the week before on May 10 the same room would be £69.99.

And now, as general tickets go on sale, the price of other hotels in the capital has skyrocketed. On Booking.com, the cheapest price for one room, for two people, on Wednesday May 17 in Cardiff City Centre is at EasyHotel for £310. This is followed by The Hilton, Cardiff at £341.

The Novotel is being priced at £425, the Leonardo Hotel (formerly Jury's Inn) at £434, the Mercure at £429 and the Radisson Blu at £449. Luxury hotels such as The Marriott are charging a huge £503 with the city's newest addition The Parkgate Hotel charging a whopping £634.

The hotel which opened in 2021 was billed as the go-to accommodation for star's visiting the city so the mammoth price tag might be worth it should you bump into Beyonce in the lobby. The Crazy in Love star last performed in the Welsh capital in 2018 with her husband Jay-Z opening their combined world tour On The Run II, bringing the city to a standstill. She also visited as part of her Formation tour in 2016.

The Renaissance tour, her first solo shows in six years, follows the release of her seventh studio album of the same name and will also call in Edinburgh, Sunderland, and London.

Beyoncé began her career as the lead singer of RnB group Destiny’s Child but has been performing as a solo artist since 2003. She has sold an estimated 200 million records, making her one of the best-selling music artists in history. She has won 25 Grammy Awards and is the most nominated woman in the award’s history.

Queen Bey is yet another megastar to announce she is visiting Cardiff, with Harry Styles and Coldplay also bringing their tours to the city in June 2023. Harry's Love On Tour shows will take place on June 20, and 21 2023, marking the first time the former One Direction star turned actor and solo artist has performed in Wales. You can find details on those shows here.
