Price of Cadbury's Mini Eggs rises by 25% - as shoppers say hikes 'getting out of hand'

Shoppers are seeing the price of their favourite Easter treats rise by around 25% compared to last year.

The price of a 80g bag of Cadbury's Mini Eggs has risen from £1 last year to £1.25 now.

Mini Eggs bars are up 25% too with the cost also going from £1 to £1.25.

As of writing, a 296g family-sized bag of Cadbury's Mini Eggs will set you back a whopping £3.75 in Sainsbusy's or Tesco.

You will be able to make a small saving if you buy your family bag Mini Eggs from Morrisons or Asda as these supermarkets are selling it for £3.50.

Many have expressed their frustration about the price increase online with one Twitter user @Muffin_man19 recently saying "the price for Mini Eggs has gotten out of hand".

Twitter user @SamulePhillips said: "Can’t help but notice they’ve made bags of Mini Eggs smaller & bumped the price up #BrokenBritain"

In response to another frustrated shopper, @pixii_dust tweeted: "I opened my 1st bag of Mini Eggs with a cuppa tonight.

"The price though! £3.75 for one of the bigger bags ( the small one is pointless). They are expensive. Won’t be buying them too often. Crème eggs are better anyway!"

Like other food companies, the owner of the iconic British brand Cadbury's Mondelez International blamed the price rises on rising costs for materials and energy.

Although the company said that is was trying to "absorb" the rising costs where they could.

A Mondelez International spokesperson told The Sun: “We are facing the same challenges that so many other food companies have already reported when it comes to significantly increased input costs – whether it’s food commodities, energy prices or packaging materials – and rising inflation.

"This means that our products are much more expensive to make.

"We understand that consumers are faced with rising costs too, which is why we look to absorb costs wherever we can, but, in this difficult environment, we’ve had to make the decision to increase the recommended retail price of Cadbury Mini Eggs 80g.

"Whilst we are making this change to the recommended retail price, retailers are free to set their own prices in their shops.”

Mirror Money has contacted Mondelez International for comment.
