Price of bins, TV and electricity to rise in days as households are hit with discount warning

The price of bins, TV and electricity is set to rise again for hundreds of thousands of Irish customers in days, as contracts with discounted prices come to an end.

The cost-of-living is set to increase for approximately 130,000 Irish households as energy bills soar following the return of higher unit prices. Virgin media TV and broadband, rubbish bin collections and tolls are also set to increase this year.

Customers who switched energy providers to avail of 12 months' worth of a discounted price will see bills soar once again.

The 130,000 customers, made up of 105,000 electricity and 29,000 gas users, switched suppliers last September in order to avail of discounted prices on their bills, however, these discounts are now coming to an end.

Bin collections

Greyhound Recycling announced that they are increasing their rates due to the rising costs bearing down on their operation.

From the beginning of July, the company will increase charges to customers by €3 per month to €24.47.

Panda Waste are also raising their fees and said a new charging structure that will see the quarterly charges climb from just over €75 to €83.

Virgin Media TV and Broadband

Virgin Media will increase their prices, with their customers seeing an increase in July - with June their final month to be charged at their current price.

The 2.4pc increase means that the cost for those with broadband only packages from Virgin Media will go up by €48 each year, RSVP reports.

Toll increases

July 1 will see toll prices rise in different parts of the country.

Prices will increase by their maximum amount on the M50 and the eight Public Private Partnership routes. However, there won’t be any increase on the Dublin Port Tunnel.

The M50 tolls are to increase by 30c for cars without tags, with the new price to be set at €3.50. Cars with video accounts will be increased from €2.70 to €2.90.

Cars with tags will see an increase of 20c, with the new price at €2.30.

On the M1, M7, M8, N6, N25 at Waterford and N18 Limerick Tunnel, tolls for cars will increase from €2 to €2.10. The M3 car tolls will rise 10c to €1.60.

On the M4 there will be an increase of 20c for cars to €3.20.
