President Donald Trump will host Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for an official working visit today. The two leaders are set to discuss maintaining ceasefire deals and a commitment to freeing all remaining hostages held in Gaza, as per a press call with a senior administration official.
During the visit, they will also explore ways in which Israel and the United States can collaborate to promote peace and stability in the region, according to the senior administration official.
The official highlighted the recent improvement in US-Israeli relations under President Trump's leadership, following a period of deterioration over the past four years. The official commended Israel's actions in response to the October 7 terrorist attacks as necessary to protect its citizens.
The agenda for the visit includes a one-on-one, bilateral meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, as well as expanded bilateral discussions involving senior officials from both countries. The day will conclude with a dinner.
Notably, Netanyahu is the first foreign leader to be invited to the White House during President Trump’s second term. The invitation was extended following discussions between the two leaders, with plans for the visit initiated during a phone call prior to President Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
