President Donald Trump has retained counsel from top law firm Sullivan & Cromwell to represent him in his ongoing appeal efforts in the cases brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
The president will be represented by Sullivan Cromwell co-chair and partner Robert J. Giuffra Jr., who has a wealth of experience in various legal areas including securities, white collar criminal, product liability, and tax litigation.
Trump's legal team also includes Matthew Schwartz, Jeffrey Wall, James McDonald, and Morgan Ratner, all partners at Sullivan & Cromwell with impressive legal backgrounds.
Boris Epshteyn, Trump’s top legal advisor, continues to play a crucial role as senior counsel in coordinating legal matters for the president.
Giuffra emphasized the importance of Trump's appeal for the rule of law and New York's reputation as a global business and legal center.
Previously, Trump's attorneys Todd Blanche, John Sauer, Emil Bove, and Will Scharf, who successfully defended him in various investigations, were appointed to key roles in his administration.
The new legal team will handle Trump’s appeals in both Bragg’s case and James’ case, following his recent sentencing by Judge Juan Merchan and the civil fraud ruling by New York Judge Arthur Engoron.
Trump's ability to appeal his conviction on charges of falsifying business records was preserved by Merchan's unconditional discharge sentence.
In Engoron's ruling, Trump and defendants were found liable for various offenses, leading to a $454 million civil fraud judgment that Trump is currently appealing.
The New York appeals court has shown receptiveness to potentially reversing or reducing the judgment, indicating a significant development in the ongoing legal battle.
