President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the removal of several political appointees, including some prominent Democrats and critics of his, from advisory boards. The move is part of an effort to align the appointees with the administration's vision to 'Make America Great Again.'
Celebrity chef and restaurateur José Andrés was removed from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley was removed from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. Diplomat Brian Hook was removed from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and ex-Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was removed from the President’s Export Council.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump's Presidential Personnel Office is actively working to identify and remove over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous administration who do not align with the current administration's goals.
Gen. Mark Milley, who had been critical of Trump, was among those removed. He had previously called Trump a 'fascist' and was pardoned by the Biden administration to protect him from potential retribution. Brian Hook, a former top State Department official, and Keisha Lance Bottoms, a Democrat and frequent Trump critic, were also removed from their positions.
José Andrés, an ally of former President Joe Biden, had clashed with Trump over immigration remarks made by the former president in 2015. A restaurant deal between Andrés and the Trump Organization fell through due to the disagreement, resulting in a lawsuit that was settled during Trump's first administration.
