President Trump Establishes Department Of Government Efficiency

Former U.S. President Trump hosts a campaign rally, in Rome, Georgia

President Donald Trump recently took a significant step by establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) within the federal government through an executive action. This move comes after a shift in perspective, as indicated by sources familiar with the DOGE plans.

The executive order temporarily renames the United States Digital Service to the United States DOGE Service for a duration of 18 months. The directive given to this entity is to revamp the software utilized by federal agencies as part of a 'Software Modernization Initiative' aimed at enhancing governmental efficiency and productivity.

In addition to this, federal agencies are instructed to form their own DOGE teams. These teams are expected to consist of a DOGE Team Lead, an engineer, a human resources specialist, and an attorney, as outlined in the executive order.

It is noteworthy that the executive order does not mention any plans to reduce the federal budget, workforce, or regulations, which were initially highlighted by Trump as DOGE's primary objectives during the initiative's announcement in November. However, it is possible that future executive orders may address these specific goals.
