President Donald Trump made several key appointments on Wednesday, announcing new individuals to fill important roles within his administration.
Firstly, Trump revealed his selection of Andrew F. Puzder as the Ambassador to the European Union. Puzder, a seasoned attorney, businessman, and author, was praised by Trump for his diverse skill set that would enable him to effectively represent US interests in the EU, a crucial region for global diplomacy. Notably, Puzder had previously withdrawn his name from consideration for the position of Labor Department head.
Secondly, Trump appointed L. Brent Bozell III as the CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). Bozell's extensive experience in the media landscape, particularly as the Founder and President of the Media Research Center, a conservative media watchdog organization, was highlighted by Trump. USAGM oversees US government-funded international media outlets, including the Voice of America.
Lastly, Trump chose Sean Curran, his current Secret Service detail leader, to serve as the Director of the United States Secret Service. While Curran has a close personal relationship with the president and has led Trump's detail for the past four years, concerns have been raised about his lack of managerial experience to oversee an agency as large and complex as the Secret Service. Notably, Curran has not managed the budget or operations of the Secret Service before, and his supervisory experience was limited to a team of about 85 individuals. Additionally, he has never held a position at the agency's headquarters nor been a member of the Senior Executive Service.
