James Corden had a number of surprise during his star-studded The Late Late Show finale - but perhaps the most unexpected came from US President Joe Biden.
After a remarkable run of 1,200 shows and 8 years on the air, the beloved British host waved a final goodbye to his American fans.
Although it almost didn't happen, as the Gavin and Stacey star started his last ever episode by getting locked out of his own studio, but thankfully celeb guests Harry Styles and Will Ferrell were on hand to help out.
Opening straight away with a historic moment, James was told someone who had "relied on his show for the news" for the last few years had sent in a video message.
"Oh stop," said James as an image of the White House appeared before President Biden popped up on screen to thank the host for "all the joy you've brought to homes across America".
President Biden took a quick trip down memory lane - and surprised Corden by joking about his longevity on the show.
"James, congrats on an incredible run," the President stated, before looking back at the skit where James brought him edible flowers into the Oval Office.
"1,200 shows in eight years, but after a day spent working for me in the White House I'm surprised you lasted eight years in any job," he joked, before expressing his gratitude for the joy The Late Late Show brought during challenging times.
Images then appeared on-screen of some of James' most memorable moments on the show.
He continued: "Thank you for all the joy you've brought to homes across America. And a special thanks for never asking me to sing in a car.
"We'll miss you pal, I can't wait to see what you do next."
After concluding on that gracious note, overwhelmed Corden collapsed on his desk with his head in his hands.
"That is amazing," he said, before joking: "There was a minute in the middle when I was watching when those photos were going when I was like, 'Wait, have I died?'"
Elsewhere, the charismatic host avoided an emotional breakdown when the camera panned to his parents in the audience.
James' teary-eyed mother paid tribute to her son's accomplishment, but the comedic TV host joked that he was surprised to see her facial movements due to Botox.
There was also a dream scene in which late night celebrity television host colleagues, including Jimmy Fallon, Carson Daily and Seth Meyers, tried to steal Carpool Karaoke.
James' time in American has come to an end after reportedly turned down a £40million deal to keep hosting the US chat show.
He said no amount of money could replace being able to spontaneously call his dad and invite him out for lunch.
"There are people at home who are getting older," he said on US radio show Sirius FM.
"And we really felt that during Covid, there were a couple of health things that came along that made us just feel like… there were too many signs telling us to go home."
