President-elect Donald Trump has announced his selection of Andrew Ferguson as his choice for Federal Trade Commission chair. Trump praised Ferguson for his track record of standing up to Big Tech censorship and protecting Freedom of Speech in the country. Ferguson currently serves as a commissioner of the FTC and previously clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
In addition to Ferguson, Trump also named Mark Meador as his pick for FTC commissioner. Meador brings experience as an antitrust enforcer at both the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, as well as in private practice at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
Trump's reelection has sparked speculation about how his administration will handle ongoing antitrust cases involving tech giants like Apple and Amazon. Google is awaiting a decision on whether a federal judge will approve the US government's recommendation for it to divest Chrome after its search business was deemed a monopoly.
The incoming administration may also decide to terminate any current FTC investigations that are underway.
