President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly encouraged Vivek Ramaswamy to consider an appointment to the US Senate seat recently vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance, should Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine offer him the position. Ramaswamy, a former biotech entrepreneur and 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has already been selected by the president-elect to assist in leading the Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory board focused on identifying federal government budget cuts.
While Ramaswamy's preference lies in concentrating on his role with the Department of Government Efficiency and running for Ohio governor in 2026, he remains open to the Senate position if it is the consensus choice. The president-elect's encouragement coincided with Ramaswamy's recent meeting with Governor DeWine, a Republican, over the weekend.
Regarding the potential appointment, DeWine's press secretary, Dan Tierney, stated, 'Neither Governor DeWine nor our office has commented on any possible candidates for the pending appointment.'
