In 2022, President Joe Biden signed a significant gun safety legislation, marking the most comprehensive reform in nearly three decades. This move came in response to a tragic incident where a White supremacist carried out a mass shooting at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.

The new law includes provisions that allocate over $750 million to assist states in implementing crisis-intervention programs. It also addresses certain loopholes in existing gun-control laws and mandates more thorough reviews for individuals aged 18 to 21 seeking to purchase firearms.

President Biden has expressed his desire to further strengthen gun control measures. During his State of the Union address, he called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as the implementation of universal background checks. Biden emphasized that these actions are not intended to infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners.

Despite his campaign promises in 2020, President Biden has faced challenges in garnering support from Congress for his proposed gun control measures.

On the other hand, former President Donald Trump has vowed to reverse the actions taken by President Biden in relation to gun control. Trump has pledged to overturn Biden's executive order targeting the firearms industry and has assured his commitment to safeguarding citizens' Second Amendment rights. Additionally, Trump has indicated his intention to advocate for concealed carry reciprocity legislation in Congress.

The debate surrounding gun control continues to be a contentious issue in American politics, with differing perspectives on how best to address gun violence while upholding constitutional rights.
