The event saw the attendance of former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and renowned author John Grisham.
The fundraiser, hosted at the residence of former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a close associate of the Clintons, showcased the support Biden is garnering for his 2024 re-election bid. During his remarks, Biden took a swipe at his potential GOP challenger, former President Trump, labeling him a 'convicted felon' and emphasizing the importance of democracy in the upcoming election.
This fundraiser followed another successful event in Los Angeles, where Biden set a new Democratic Party fundraising record by collecting over $30 million. The combined total from the Virginia, California, and Los Angeles fundraisers exceeded $40 million, demonstrating strong financial backing for the president's campaign.
While Biden currently leads in overall fundraising, Trump's team has been working diligently to narrow the gap. In a notable achievement, Trump's campaign and the Republican National Committee raised a remarkable $141 million in May, partly attributed to the former president's recent legal troubles. The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee have yet to disclose their June fundraising figures.
Trump's fundraising efforts have also seen success, with a recent swing through California and Nevada resulting in approximately $27.5 million in contributions. The competition between the two camps underscores the significance of fundraising in shaping the political landscape ahead of the 2024 election.
