President Biden has ordered an independent review of the assassination attempt on former President Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, as confirmed by Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on Monday.
The review, according to Mayorkas, will focus on evaluating the actions of the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement officers before, during, and after the shooting. The goal is to identify both immediate and long-term corrective actions necessary to ensure the effective protection of national leaders.
Mayorkas emphasized that a direct line of sight, such as the one the shooter had to Trump, should not have been possible. He also addressed reports suggesting that the agency had turned down requests for additional resources for Trump's security detail, stating that these claims were unequivocally false.
